White Pine Road Green Space

White Pine Road Green Space is a pedestrian pathway from White Pine Road to Helmcken Centennial Park in View Royal, B.C. This thirty meter long concrete pathway is between homes 156 and 160 and is bordered closely by a chain-link fence. This pathway provides access to the playground and three fenced ball diamonds as well as to a good site to observe migratory birds such as gadwalls, widgeons, wood ducks, geese, loons, plovers, terns and grebes. Thomas Park Drive, Seabird Park, Midwood Place Green Space Polly Place Green Space, Tidewater Road Green Space, Helmcken Centennial Park, Stillwater Road Green Space and St. Giles Park are nearby.

White Pine Road Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway Hwy1. Exit off Hwy1 onto the Helmcken Road and turn south. At the traffic circle, continue along Helmcken Road to Werra Road. Turn left onto Werra Road and follow the road as it curves and dips along the residential homes. Look for White Pine Road to the left. There is limited roadside parking along Werra Road near White Pine Road while White Pine Road has several signs that warn of removal of improperly parked vehicles. City busses travel along Helmcken Road.

Kitwanga Place Green Space, North Saanich

Kitwanga Place Green Space is in the lovely residential neighborhood of Lands End in North Saanich. Located at the end of the cul-de-sac, the two hundred and fifty meter trail connects through relatively flat rolling terrain to Woodcreek Drive. There are glimpses of the Salish Sea although most the trail is well shaded. The forest along the trail has cedar and Douglas-fir trees protecting the ferns and salal. This connector trail is frequented by hikers, dog walkers and horse riders.

You can get to this green space from Pat Bay Highway. As you near the ferry terminal in Swartz Bay, stay to the right to exit the highway. At the light, turn left and follow the signs to Lands End Road. Travel along Lands End Road past the turn off for West Saanich Road. Kitwanga Place is the next road to the left.  There is limited road side parking.
