Langford Lake Park North

Langford Lake Park North is in the Langford Lake area of Langford, B.C. This nature park is about a hectare in size and is shaped like an elongated rectangle. The park extends from Leigh Road, near the Trans Canada over pass, to Goldstream Avenue. There is limited to no access to this parkland which is surrounded by private property. Spencer Middle School Green Space, Spencer’s Pond Park, Langford Lake Park and Centennial Park are nearby.

Langford Lake Park North can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Leigh Road exit and continue along to turn right onto Goldstream Avenue. The park is on the right between homes 1146 and 1138. There is limited roadside parking this area. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue.

Centennial Park – Langford

Centennial Park is in the downtown area of Langford, B.C. This park is also known as Carlow as well as Kinsmen and Langford Fastball Park. Presumably it was established for the centennial celebration of the formation of the Colony of British Columbia in eighteen fifty-eight. Centennial Park is about three hectares in size. The park hosts a splash park, two play ground areas, a concession and washroom building, four fastball fields and tennis courts. The playgrounds lie on either side of the splash park. One play area has a series of climbable structures with ramps, double slides and a bridge over the pea gravel base. The other play area is a large climbable web suspended between three arched poles. The rubber mat surfacing has been used under this structure. The splash park has several spouts of water as well as a long slide that is surrounded by rocks and concrete. There are benches along the perimeter of the play areas as well as a few picnic tables. The concession is open seasonal and for some ball games. The washroom is also open seasonally. Each ball diamond has bleachers and covered dugouts for the teams. The diamonds have perimeter chain link fences. The fields are the home of the Langford Minor Fastball Club. There is a batting cage along the south side of the west field as well as storage sheds. The tennis courts are best accessed from Tennis Court Lane off of Rita Road. The tall chain link fence, with door-sized gates on either end, surrounds the two courts which have benches for seating and gear. A tall giant sequoia tree provides shade over the tennis courts in the afternoon. The north and south sides of the sports fields are lined with a twenty foot tall cedar hedge which has individual trees replaced over the years. A foot path along the perimeter, about five hundred and fifty meters long, has with gravel and paved sections. Centennial Park can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Leigh Road exit and continue along to turn left onto Goldstream Avenue. Then make a left turn left onto Carlow Street. The park is on the right. There is a small parking lot as well as roadside parking near the park. The park can also be access from a pathway that connects to Sybronden Road Alternative parking is found near the tennis court access from Tennis Court Lane. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue and the Trolley provides service along Carlow Street.

Knotty Pine Park

Knotty Pine Park is in the Langford Lake downtown area of Langford, B.C. Labeled as Crandall Avenue by some cartographers, the linear park contains a gravel pathway that is eighty-five meters long. The pathway connects Rita Road with Knotty Pine Road. An arbutus tree grows along the pathway which is lined with grasses. Centennial Park, Spencer Middle School Green Space, Ruth King Elementary School Green Space and Langford Lake Park are nearby.

Knotty Pine Park can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Leigh Road exit and head south to reach Goldstream Avenue. Turn right onto Carlow then left onto Bray and let onto Rita Road. The park is between 2851 and 2845. It can also be reached from between 2848 and 2852 Knotty Pine Road. There is limited roadside parking. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue.

Spencer’s Pond Park

Spencer’s Pond Park is in the Langford Lake area of Langford, B.C. The nature park is about half a hectare in size and is a seasonal wetland. The water in the pond can reach a depth of over a meter during the rainy season on Vancouver Island yet become completely dry during summer months. There is limited to no access to this nature area. The flora and fauna in this area was diverse; mayflies, giant water bugs, diving beetles, salamanders and the pacific tree frogs as well as bats and some migratory birds have been seen in Spencer’s Pond. The two thousand and ten construction of Leigh Road has significantly altered the wetlands as the removal of forest and creation of the rocky drainage ponds for the road has affected the water levels. Florence Lake Park, Savory Park, Langford Lake North Park, Spencer Middle School Green Space, Centennial Park and Hartsdale Donna Green space are nearby.

Spencer’s Pond Park can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Leigh Road exit and head south to reach Goldstream Avenue. The park is on the right across from 2760 Leigh Road. There is a small gravel parking area on the east side of Leigh Road that has limited access. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue.

Spencer Middle School Green Space

Spencer Middle School Green Space is in the Langford Lake area of Langford, B.C. As part of the Sooke School District number 62, the grounds of the school host a couple of sports fields and a small play area. The school grounds are available outside of school hours. The grass fields are large enough for soccer, footfall, rubgy as well as track and field. There is small area with a backstop for baseball games. The west side of the green space has tall chain link fencing to limit access to Spencer’s Pond Park while the north and east side fences are bordered Tri-way Trailer Park and warehouses. There are several tall Douglas fir trees and a garden border of rose bushes near the road. This green space is about three and half hectares and includes part of the waterway that drains Leigh Pond. Karr Goldstream Green Space, Centennial Park, Langford Lake Park North, Spencer’s Pond Park and Knotty Pond Park are nearby.

Karr Goldstream Green Space

Karr Goldstream Green Space is in the Langford Lake and downtown area of Langford, B.C. The green space is a gravel pedestrian walkway that is about sixty five meters long. The green space is marked with a small white post. The green space is border by the wood fences of the neighboring properties. Ruth King Elementary School Green Space, Spencer Middle School Green Space and Centennial Park are nearby.

Karr Goldstream Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Leigh Road exit and head south to reach Goldstream Avenue. Turn right onto Goldstream Avenue to look for the greenspace between homes 981 and 977. There is limited roadside parking this area. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue.

Ruth King Elementary School Green Space

Ruth King Elementary School Green Space is in the downtown area of Langford, B.C. Evelyn “Ruth” King was a teacher and principal at in the Sooke School District who was known for her independent, strong and loving approach to education. This green space is available outside of school usage. This three hectare school yard has a one and half meter tall chain link fence along the perimeter of grounds with a number of openings for pedestrians. A stroll along the perimeter is about seven hundred and fifty meters. There are several sports fields for soccer, baseball, football as well as a paved court for basketball games. The two playgrounds are found at the ends of the school along Jacklin Road. The southern play ground has climbing apparatus that leads to a platform play area while the northern play area has a small set of climbing areas with slides. Several swings are found here too. Sunderland Peatt Green Space, Arnote Park, Sunderland Deville Green Space, Porcher Park and Peatt Green Space are nearby.

Ruth King Elementary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Millstream Road/Veterans Memorial Parkway and head south to reach Goldstream Avenue. Turn right and travel along Goldstream Avenue to reach Jacklin Road. Make a right turn onto Jacklin Road and look for the green space on the left. City buses travel along Goldstream Avenue.
