View Royal Green Space

This green space consists of a short section of roadway that connects View Royal Ave to Palmer Station in View Royal, B.C. A two post barrier limits access to pedestrians and cyclists and is used a fire access route. The green space is part of the walking tour called the Harbour Loop for the Town of View Royal, B.C. It is close to Palmer Station Green Space, Newstead Park, Tovey Cove Green Space, Lilmkiln Cove Green Space, View Royal Park and Helmcken Corner Park.

View Royal Green Space can be accessed from the Trans Canada Highway, Hwy1. Exit onto Helmcken Road and continue across the Island Highway to View Royal Avenue. Turn right onto the View Royal Avenue and continue to the end of the road where it meets Palmer Station. The green space is the fire barrier access. There is limited roadside parking along View Royal Avenue. City buses travel along the Island Highway.

Newstead Park

Newstead Park is landscaped park about one tenth of a hectare in View Royal, B.C. It contains a grass covered area shaded by a tall Douglas fir and hemlock trees. There is a playground with swings, slides and a climbing apparatus on a pea gravel base. The picnic table is near the low granite rock wall that can make a challenging climb. The park is in single family home area of View Royal, B.C. Heddle Park and Tovey Cove Green Space are nearby.

Newstead Park can be accessed from the Trans Canada Highway, Hwy1. Exit onto the Helmcken Road and continue across the Island Highway. Turn right onto View Royal Avenue then right onto Heddle Road. The park is on the left along Heddle Road. There is limited roadside parking. City buses travel along the Island Highway.

Tovey Cove Shoreline Access

Tovey Cove Shoreline Access 6 Tovey Cove Shoreline Access 10 The Town of View Royal, BC, has some unique waterfront beach accesses with views of Cole Island, forested areas, watery reefs and the Olympic Mountains of Washington State in the distance. This is one of those amazing places. The shoreline along Tovey Cove is a rocky area while the beach area is mostly gravel and white shells. Tovey Shoreline Access has a gravel footpath to a series of staircases that lead to the rocky shoreline. This small shallow sheltered indentation on the northwestern side of Esquimalt Harbour is surrounded by townhouse complexes and single family homes. The trail from the roadway is a crushed gravel pathway that leads to a set of wood stairs, about forty of them, along the pathway with wooden handrails on one side. The pine and fir trees provide ample shade to the small uplands area. The beach is best at low tides and is composed crushed shells and sand. Newstead Park, Heddle Park and Limekiln Cover Green Space are nearby. Geographical location N48° 27’ 15” W123° 26’ 49” Tovey Cove Shoreline Access can be reached from Hwy1. Take exit #8 to access Helmcken Road and turn south and continue down the hill to turn right onto View Royal Road. Continue along to Tovey Crescent and turn left. The beach access is near the junction of Tovey Crescent with Governor’s Point Road. There is limited road side parking. City buses travel along Helmcken Road and the Island Highway.
