Hans Helgeson Elementary School Green Space is in the District of Metchosin, a coastal community in the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. The three hectare area is part of the Sooke School District number 62 in B.C. Originally built in nineteen sixty nine its name commemorates Mr Hans Helgeson. He was a farmer pioneer and prospector in the Metchosin area as well as a member of parliament during the eighteen sixties. The school yard has a large grass covered field for outdoor sports and a playground area that available outside of school hours. The landscape of the school yard includes some evergreen trees while the school yard is bordered by a chainlink fence and homesteads. There is a small of second growth cedar and Douglas fir forest near the entrance to the school property. The Galloping Goose Trail – Metchosin is nearby.

Hans Helgeson Elementary School Green Space can be reached from Highway 1 when you exit at the Millstream /Veteran Memorial Parkway exit. Head south along the Veteran Memorial Parkway to reach Latoria Road. Turn right onto Latoria Road and continue along to reach Happy Valley Road. Turn left onto Happy Valley Road and then right onto Rocky Point Road. Look for the school signs along the roadway. The entrance maybe have a barrier outside of school hours. There is a small parking area on the left of the driveway into the school.
Happy Valley Elementary School Green Space is in the Happy Valley neighborhood of Langford, B.C. This green space is on the western slope of Triangular Hill where a large grass covered sports field was created with the new school building. There are a couple of playgrounds and a partial basketball court. The playgrounds are near the northwest side of the Sooke School District 62 building built in 2006 with reconfiguration in 2010. The smaller colorful playground is for the youngest children at the school and has a low platform with a slide and variety of climbing, swinging and other play structures set on a wood chip base. The other play area consists of several different structures including a swing set with six swings. A climbing apparatus with slide and three rectangular monkey bar contraptions. The basketball court is on the eastside of the school yard is partially covered with a portable classroom. A chain-link fence surrounds the school yard with several parking areas. The green space is available outside of school hours. This green space has been school grounds since nineteen twelve when a single building housed the teacher and her students. The school was named area which was named for the atmosphere that early pioneers brought to the area in the late eighteen hundreds. Happy Valley Elementary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn off Hwy1 at the Millstream and Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Continue along VMP to reach Sooke Road. Turn right onto Sooke Road and continue to Happy Valley Road. Follow Happy Valley Road to reach the school grounds. There is a pedestrian access from Weaver Place to the school yard. The grass field can be reached from Weaver Green Space, Blueberry Lane and Acadian Road. There is limited roadside parking this area. City buses travel along Happy Valley Road.

Belmont Secondary School Green Space is near the northwest shore of Glen Lake in Langford, B.C. It lies upslope from the Goudy Sports Field in the City Center Park and Langford Lake. This green space was once the school grounds of Glen Lake Elementary School, the Sooke School District #62, that was built in nineteen sixty one. The original Belmont High was along Jacklin Road. Its removal makes room for commercial and residential developments. Douglas fir trees and a few arbutus trees border along Glen Lake Road near this green space. A few more Douglas fir and cedar trees are found to the west of the building. Several street trees have been planted in areas in the parking lot for the school. Belmont Secondary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Millstream Road and turn right onto Veteran’s Memorial Parkway. Continue along VMP to reach Jenkins Ave. Turn left onto Jenkins Ave and continue to the junction with Glen Lake Road. Turn right onto Glen Lake Road and look for the school on the right near Goudy Turf Field in City Center Park. Alternatively you can reach Sooke Road from VMP. Continue along Sooke Road to Glen Lake Road. Turn onto Glen Lake Road and continue along as the road curves to the right and look for the school grounds on the left. There is parking this area. Savory Elementary School Green Space is in the Mill Hill neighborhood of Langford, B.C. Built in nineteen sixty six, Savory School is named after Lillian Savory, a business woman, teacher and volunteer for education in Langford. The green space has several unique areas to explore as well as an excellent playground and a couple of sport fields. This school ground is available outside of school hours as it is part of the Sooke School District 62. The playground consists of a several swing, slides and climbing bars and ladders. The sports fields are a good size with white goal posts on the ends. A well explored nature area on the eighty-six meter tall hill, also called mini-mountain, lies to the south of the school buildings. The hill has several tall western red cedar, big leaf maple and Douglas fir trees as well as ocean spray, ninebark and oregon grape shrubs. A unique feature is the large white covered pedestrian bridge that provides access to the green space from Atkins Road. The bridge crosses over the railway track and Trans Canada Trail. A gated fire road access is from Vantilburg Crescent between 2735 and 2739. The Veteran’s Memorial Park, Chan Streamside Park and Mill Hill Regional Park, are nearby.

Savory Elementary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Veteran Memorial Parkway/Millstream Road and turn south. Continue along the parkway to turn left onto Goldstream Avenue. Follow Goldstream Avenue to Grainger Road. Turn left onto Grainger Road where there is limited parking in this area. A fire road access is from Vantilburg Crescent between 2735 and 2739. City buses travel along Atkins Road and Goldstream Avenue.
Located within the Sooke School District #62, Willway Elementary School yard is in Goldstream neighborhood of Langford, B.C. The green space that forms the school grounds has two playground areas, several benches and picnic tables. The two and half hectare green space is available outside of school hours. The front of the shcool building has some picnic tables near the grove of pine trees, possibly white pines. Also near the parking area, at the front of the school, is a asphalt area for sports such as hockey, as well as a small monkey bar set and swing set. The second playground has swings and a climbing platform that has a slide. It lies near the asphalt basketball court and hopscotch grids around the back of the school building. A small fenced garden area hosts several edible plants. Most of the school ground is a large open grass field used for sports like soccer, field hockey, baseball or running events. The green space is surrounded by chain link fencing, that border along private homes, except at the trails for Lakehurst Green Space, Robalee Green Space and the two Santana Green Spaces. This is great place to visit in your backyard. Gold Stream Provincial Park, Mt Wells Regional Park, Harlequin Park, Goldstream Meadows Park, Langford Lake Park and several green spaces are nearby.

Willway Elementary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at the Westshore Parkway and make a right onto Amy Road to pass the gas station. Continue along Amy Road which merges with Sooke Lake Road. Turn left onto Mt Wells Drive and look for the school at 2930. There is limited roadside parking this area and the school parking area is often gated.
Lakewood Elementary School is part the Sooke School District (number sixty two). The green space includes the large school yard with two large sports fields and several playground areas. The two hectare green space is in the Florence Lake neighborhood of Langford, B.C. The south playground is on a wood chip base with a curved slide with step ladder access and a separate climbing bar set. A few meters up the slope are six swings that are on a wood chip base. Further along the south side of the school grounds is a climbable rope web with an arc shaped. The east playground has two slides connected to climbing, swinging and sliding apparatus that are on raised platforms. The base is composed of wood chips. There are a couple of areas of the asphalt that are lined for basketball as well as hopscotch games. Fifty concrete steps, in four sets of seven and then pairs of two and three, lead up to the grass covered sports field that is surrounded by achain linked fence. The western side of the fence is lined with colorful hand painted wood cut in the shape of fish; this ‘stream of dreams’ was developed to increase awareness that all fish live in water and all that streams of water are where fish live. The closest waterway is Gardner Creek, a seasonal creek, which flows through Setchfield Park and Lake Ida Ann Park toward Mill Stream also known as Millstream Creek. An extensive garden bed lines the sport field along Setchfield Avenue. This green space is available outside of school hours and is a great site for a parkour workouts. Lakewood Elementary School Green Space can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway also called Hwy1. Turn at Millstream Road and continue to the log house pub to turn left onto Treanor Avenue. Look for the fire lane that connects to small parking area, at the back of the school, between houses 753 and 749. The main entrance and parking for the school is along Setchfield Avenue which is reached by continuing along Treanor Avenue and turning left onto Setchfield Avenue. There is road side parking along Setchfield Avenue. Buses travel along Treanor Ave and Setchfield Avenue.
