Mainwaring Road Green Space, North Saanich

Enjoy a brief respite by strolling along this hundred and fifty meter pathway in this quiet residential North Saanich neighborhood of Bazan Bay. The green space is bordered by cedar hedgerows and fences. This green space contains a gravel pathway that connects the residential neighborhood along Mainwaring Road to East Saanich Road. The trail leads a pedestrian crossing over East Saanich Road near Graham Road. Balsam Park is short distance up Graham Road and Dickson Avenue Green Space is also nearby.

Mainwaring Road Green Space can be reached from Pat Bay Highway. Turn at Exit 26, the McTavish Interchange, the unique and confusing series of roundabouts that make a multi-circle roadway overpass. Take the third exit onto McTavish Road then take the second exit to stay on McTavish Road. Continue along McTavish Road and turn at the first road to the right. Once on Mainwaring Road look for the trail on the left, just past Finlay Lane. There is concrete barrier painted yellow near the gravel trail. There is roadside parking along Mainwaring Road.

Dickson Avenue Green Space, North Saanich

The quiet residential neighborhood of the North Saanich Bazan Bay community borders on Dickson Woods, a lovely forested area that is part of the Victoria International Airport property. Dickson Avenue forms the southern edge of the wood. Its road allowance extends along the forested area to Cresswell Road. The well trodden pathway provides a terrific three hundred meter walk toward the agricultural lands in this neighborhood. This green space is close to Balsam Park, the Flight Path and Cresswell Road Green Space.

You can get to Dickson Avenue Green Space from Pat Bay Highway. Turn at Exit 26, the McTavish Interchange, an unique and confusing series of roundabouts that make a multi-circle roadway overpass. Take the third exit onto McTavish Road then take the first exit onto Canora Road. Continue onto Willingdon Road and at the roundabout take the third exit onto East Saanich Road. Turn right onto Dickson Avenue. Once on Dickson Avenue continue to the end of the road and look for the trial. There is roadside parking.

Balsam Park

A rare gem in the North Saanich area, Balsam Park has terrific playground and large grass field for children, of all ages, to play on.  The parkland is about half an hectare in size. Its northern side bordered by the fences of the neighborhood homes and a few trees. The playground includes a climbing structure with a slide. There are also two swing sets.  This quiet neighborhood  park can be reached from either Balsam or Basswood roads.

Alternatively, once along Graham Avenue look for the park at the junction with Basswood Road. There is roadside parking along Balsam and Basswood roads.
