Located on the northern tip of the Saanich Peninsula, the shallow and quiet ocean waters in the Queen Mary Bay are cool to cold, depending on the season. This small bay borders on Colburne Passage and looks across to Piers Island and Goose Passage of the Salish Sea. The fairly steep grass-covered trail from Shearwater Terrace is a rough and unmarked between the homes of this North Saanich neighborhood. The shoreline is rocky in the upper beach. If you make it here at low tide the intertidal area is muddy. The north-facing beach is protected by Queen Mary Islet yet be aware that the wake from passing yachts can wash across the beach quickly. You can also take a few moments to stroll along Shearwater Terrace to access the trail in Queen Mary Bay Park.
